Emerald Ridge is a west-end restricted subdivision within the Jefferson City, Missouri city limits. It has all underground utilities and concrete streets and is served by the public school districts of Belair elementary, Thomas Jefferson middle and Jefferson City high schools; and by St. Joseph and Helias private Catholic schools. Dwelling minimums are: 1750 sq. ft. living space for ranchers with 2-car attached garages; 1900 sq. ft. if garage is in basement. One-and-one-half and two-story homes must have a minimum of 2400 sq. ft. of living space with 2-car attached garages. Take Highway 50 West to Outer Road Country Club.
Forest Gate is a west-end restricted subdivision located off North Ten Mile Drive on the west-end of Jefferson City, Missouri. Who We Are
The business was essentially started by Richard Vaughan of Clarksburg, MO, in the late 1870’s. His son, Charles, followed in his footsteps in the early 1900’s. Charles’ five sons, William, Floyd, Lloyd, Willard and Millard also worked construction with their father and eventually became the Vaughan Brothers Construction Company.
They branched out from Clarksburg to surrounding communities sometime in the 1930’s. William’s son, Kenneth, grew up learning the business and struck out on his own in 1960, building in the Tipton/California area. He incorporated the company in 1978 — Ken Vaughan & Sons Construction Co., Inc. and began building homes and senior housing complexes throughout central Missouri. He also built the Village Green Shopping Center in California, MO.
His son, David, worked for the company during summer vacations beginning at age 12, and after graduating from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State) with a B.S. in construction management, joined the business full-time in 1984. His daughter, Janet Gerhart, began working for the company in 1986.
The corporation has developed Country Club Estates, Southern Heights and Greenbrier (all located in California, MO) and Forest Gate, Foxboro and Emerald Ridge (located in Jefferson City, MO) subdivisions. After Ken’s retirement in 1999, David became president of the company.
